We are excited to announce that Derek Orr has joined the avstrategies team as Branch Manager for our Calgary office.

Derek’s 17-year AV career has included stops at 3 other national audiovisual firms. He has worked in sales, production management & technical director roles on countless events of all sizes over the years. When not working he can often be found jumping from perfectly good airplanes, just for ‘fun’.

We recently provided full audiovisual staging services for the Skills Canada National Competition in Toronto.  This is the second year in a row that event producer Patrick Roberge Productions (PRP) has contracted us to provide end-to-end staging services for the opening and closing ceremonies.

Skills Canada is a national, not-for-profit organization that actively promotes careers in skilled trades and technologies to Canadian Youth. The Canadian Skills Competition is an Olympic-style competition showcasing students’ technical and leadership skills.

We utilized one of our 12’x36’panoramic screens and 100 feet of our LED star drape to provide the scenic background.  Content was projected using two of our 15K Christie HD projectors routed through our Christie X20 Spyder to create a blended image.  We also customized our VH1 podiums with the event graphics and provided all of the rigging and lighting.

Our ability to deliver national service, along with the consistency of our equipment and expertise across Canada are some of the reasons why PRP chooses avstrategies as one of their preferred national vendors.

We have recently added low profile Meyer stage monitors to our national inventory.  The MJF-210 low-profile high-power stage monitor reproduces audio faithfully with high intelligibility at high outputs levels with ample low-frequency headroom. We now have these Meyer wedges in our avs Vancouver, Toronto, and Calgary locations. This investment furthers our commitment to providing professional audio equipment and delivering full-service audiovisual staging, technical support, and show production services to our customers across Canada.

We have recently added Martin RUSH MH 1 Profile lighting fixtures to our national inventory.  These super bright LED moving head fixtures with efficient optics punch out a variety of effects and colors from two gobo wheels and two color wheels.

Their small size and versatility make them perfect for small and medium shows.

Grey is the new black….!  New to the avstrategies inventory is 32 Panels of Northern Grey Drape.

Measuring 16ft. tall x 8ft. wide, these panels are ideal for creating a lighter look within the room, as opposed to the standard drape in black.

Dave Oliver has relocated to Prince George to oversee our new Northern BC satellite operation.  The Prince George office is an important step in our provincial strategy and will provide local and immediate service to clients with AV staging needs in Northern BC.

As one of our most senior production managers, Dave will still be seen in person on our larger projects.  From the Prince George office Dave will continue to manage equipment allocation and oversee technical logistics for all our national event activations.
